Invitation to the White Bear Dance
at Raspadalica dancesite, Istria, Croatia, June 1st. -June 2nd.2002
THE HISTORY: The wish to do this new dance was born during the first Sun Moon Dance in Croatia chiefed by Jeff Romanowski in the year 2000, where the new White Bear Song was heard the first time. Rick Cotroneo invited Martin Burberg, the songwriter, and Lukas Weber from Germany to do the dance in the United States in 2001. This year there will be a White Bear Dance in New York and this one in Croatia. All the people involved have learned from Beautiful Painted Arrow – Joseph Rael, a native american shaman from the Picuris and Southern Ute tribes in New Mexico and Colorado.
THE DANCE: It´s a two-days dance with special steps that came to the song during a drumworkshop in Germany. It is both a social and a individual dance to honor the power of the bear. It involves sweatlodge and dancesitepreparation, crystal – work, movement, dreamtime, fasting, drinking sacred water, shamanic journey, singing and drumming.
In the dance we come to ourself, come together as a group, build up the bearpower in our middle and the spread it out. After the dance we take it home and integrate it in our daily lifes. All parts of the ceremony will help to clean ourself on all different levels of life. Our sensibility to the energy of life gets higher and that will help us to go through mental, emotional, physical and spiritual blocks that we have created in the past.
THE BEAR: Known worldwide as one of the most powerfull healers he can teach us wisdom through crystals and dreams and by dancing certain patterns. The bear represents power and calmness. What we have learned out of the first White Bear Dances is, that we can become strong without getting hard with ourself and others. In wintertime the bear goes to a cave and sleeps – here we can learn something about resting and gathering new energy. The dance is a practical way to get in contact and experience the bear qualities.
THE CHIEFS: Martin Burberg is a Sun Moon Dancer and leads the singing and drumming at the German and Englisch Sun Moon Dance. In 1999 he was asked by Beautiful Painted Arrow to do beardances, not knowing how to get there and what that would mean.
Lukas Weber has chiefed Sun Moon Dances in Italy and Germany and practised diffent dances out of the teachings from Beautiful Painded Arrow.
As the idea to do the White Bear Dance was born at the Raspadalica dance site, we are very happy and honored to come bach to this beautiful place and dance with you.
Organisationals
We will meet on Saturday June 1st.2002 until 12 ò clock, but you are welcome to come on Friday Mai 31st. to have some time in the nature of a beautiful place. The dance ends on Sunday June 2nd. around noon. On the dancesite near Buzet in Istria there is no water or electricity. Everything you need before, during and after the dance you will have to bring yourself.
We will need: sleepingbag, groundcover, tarp – that means a plastic sheet,food and water for the time before and after the dance, clothes for cold, warm and rainy weather (special dance clothes if you have), swimwear and towels for the sweatlodge, a cup to drink water. All personal things that you might need.
Please bring a rosequarz and / or anything that connects you with the bear power. We will keep these items in a sacred place and give them to other dancers after the dance as a souvenir.
Suggested giveaway to support the dance and cover the costs is 50€ Euro / or same amount in Croatian money. If you are able to give more or less please let us know in advance.
